Amber Rose’s Family Did Not Approve Of Her Marriage To Wiz Khalifa Because Of Race

Amber opens up about her family members' bias.                 This summer, fans were shocked to hear that Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose were calling it quits on their marriage, but it seems like they’re both recovering just fine at this point. And while Amber was showing off some serious skin in Miami this weekend, she hit a much more serious note in an interview with OWN on
Monday night.

During a sit-down for OWN’s “Light Girls” special — they previously aired “Black Girls” — Amber explained that some members of her family weren’t too fond of Wiz, just because of his race. She is of Cape Verdean and Italian descent, and admitted that a few of her “older” family members even skipped her wedding because of it.
“With my family — they feel like they’re more superior, or better than an African American, because ‘we’re Creole and we have culture,’” the emotional 31-year-old explained, trying to make sense of it all. “And that’s something that I’ve battled with most of my life.”
Amber and Wiz have a son together, Sebastian ‘The Bash’ Taylor Thomaz, which must make things even more difficult for her.
“I’m angry that my family is like that and they want to ‘pass’ so bad that they raised my mom and my uncles and my aunts to not fully know their culture,” she added, pausing briefly to compose herself.
It’s fair to assume, then, that they also disapproved of her very public relationship with Kanye West.
